Expresses the need to address climate change in the wake of Hurricane Ida.
On Tuesday, President Biden traveled to New Jersey and New York to survey the flood damage brought about by Hurricane Ida and meet with state and local leaders coordinating recovery efforts. The White House has requested $24 billion dollars in disaster aid to address the devastation brought about by the massive hurricane.
President Biden expressed that the country has been experiencing more and higher intensity natural disasters due to the effects of climate change. He said, “The threat is here. It is not getting any better. The question is can it get worse. We can stop it from getting worse.” The president is currently working with Congress to pass a $1 trillion infrastructure package that includes measures to address climate change.
